DAY 4 - EXPLORA PARK

Had a real good sleep last night at the Way Point Hostel in Medellin.  Got up about 7:30.  The hostel doesn't include breakfast so the boys and I headed out to find a restaurant.  We walked and walked and walked and couldn't find a place.  It turns out the area we were walking in includes a lot of malls, etc. so most establishments don't open up till 10:00 o'clock.  We happened upon a McDonald's so went there and had their standard Egg McMuffin breakfast.

After breakfast, we headed back to the hostel to see about arranging for paragliding.  We were told that today was not a good day due to the overcast weather so we altered our plans and headed down to the Explora Park to view the aquarium and science centre.  The place was just awesome with lots of hands-on displays and experiments.  The grandchildren would have just loved it.  Todd and Ryan were just like a couple of little kids.  To get to Explora Park we actually ended up using the metro system.  It's a good system and operates much like the one we used in Dubai.  After the Explora Park we headed across the street to the Botanical Gardens.  After viewing the gardens, we hopped back on the metro and headed to the city centre to a trendy tourist area known as Lleras Park.  Loads of restaurants and bars surround the park.  We had supper and a couple of beers in an open-air restaurant and then walked around the area.  All three of us agreed that this was the place to be and we should have booked a hostel in this area.  The place is just awesome for dining and shopping.  Ryan agreed that Olga and Juanita would just love the area.  All of us agreed that to this point, Colombia has been a real pleasant surprise and not at all what we had expected.

After supper we headed to the Beer Shop and then back to the Way Point Hostel to work on our blogs and get ready for tomorrow's paragliding adventure.  I worked on the spreadsheet, etc. until midnight.
