DAY 6 - BLONDE HAIR???

Santa Marta Waterfront
We had breakfast at the hostel about 7:30 then went out and walked around the area along the beach and some of the streets leading up to the beach.  We then headed further down the beach to the wharf  where there were several little businesses.  This wharf extends out into the Caribbean Sea.  The boys came across a scuba-diving shop, after chatting with them, they made arrangements to go scuba diving at 2:00 p.m.  We wandered around town a little bit more and stopped at an open-air restaurant on the beach front for lunch.

We headed back to the hostel where the boys made preparations for their scuba outing and I elected to stay at the hostel and update my blog, check my emails, etc.  Several hours later the boys returned to the hostel where they met up with me and Ryan told me the story about all the women wanting to take pictures of him and with him.  This had happened earlier in the day as well.  There was a family who had a teenage daughter and they wanted to get pictures taken with Ryan too.  We really don't know what the attraction is but we suspect it's his blonde hair.  So when Ryan was at the scuba shop getting the equipment out, etc., there were women around snapping pictures of him - some of them being very forward about it and some being more shy about it and taking pictures discreetly.  Anyway, then he peeled off his shirt - well, I guess that was it, cameras came out and started flashing, people wanting to get pictures taken with him,  Guess it was quite a sight, hahaha.  We're still scratching our heads wondering what the appeal is, we suspect it's the blonde hair but we also wondered if perhaps he resembles a local entertainment star.

It was now getting closer to supper time so we decided to go out to a restaurant that the diving shop had recommended, called Welcome.  Had supper and a couple of beers and then I noticed that there were a lot of patrons who were having great big mugs of some kind of slush.  The owner told us it was a slush lemonade so we ordered three of those great big giant mugs.  Well, I'm telling you, talk about good!  Of course the lemons were freshly squeezed.  By now it was getting later and getting darker so we headed back to the hostel.

We had made previous arrangements with the hostel for us to take a guide to the Lost City (Cuidad Perdida) hike.  When we returned to the hostel, the girl told us everything was arranged and we would be picked up at 8:30 in the morning.  That was great so off to bed we went to get all rested up for our hike tomorrow.
